Dear H. H. G. van ‘t Hull:

Thank you for sending me a copy of the #28 newsletter of the “Alcyone Circle.” I have enclosed my subscription of $5 US. I am the owner of the “Patty Sue”. The “Patty Sue” is presently in the middle of a complete retrofit. New hull plates, a new Perkins engine, a complete paint job to protect all the steel from rust, is being handles by a very capable Topper Hermanson in his boatyard in Fernandina Beach Florida, USA. We should be sailing again in time for the fall breezes. F.A. Valentijn & Sons was very helpful, they sent line drawings and construction details that helped us with the retrofit, all at no charge. One interesting detail that was discovered while working on the hull; some of the original welding that was done on one side of the hull plates was still in excellent condition. Welding that has stood the test of 12 years is a tribute to the skill and craftsmanship that went into these boats.
Thank you again for the newsletter. If anyone in the Alcyone Circle cruises to the Southeast coast of the US, please look us up. We are at the Golden Isles Marina, just off the Intercostal Waterway at St. Simons Island. The dockmaster, Cap Fendig, is very accommodating, and the marina has all the comforts of home.
Good sailing.
Sincerely,
Jeff Cole
